Our History

The Bike Shop at 252 College Steet

252 College Street has been home to a bike shop since at least 1994.  Originally the little repair shop was the New Haven location of Baybrook Bicycles -- a West Haven cycling staple/institution -- dedicated to serving the downtown cycling community.

Bob Jacobson, the founder of College Street Cycles, began working for Baybrook Bicycle in 1995, traveling between the New Haven and West Haven locations, and later becoming manager of the New Haven location.

He bought the New Haven business from the original owner in 2004 and changed the name to College Street Cycles, known affectionately as ‘CSC’.  The re-invented little shop conducted its first official day of business on October 1, 2004.

Building upon Baybrook’s focus on high quality service, since 2004, CSC has dedicated itself to helping all of New Haven’s many and diverse cyclists keep their bikes in optimal running order and helping them to find the bike, component, accessory, helmet, or piece of clothing that exactly suits their needs and budget.

Being a part of the New Haven cycling community has been an amazing learning and growth experience for the shop and our staff.  We love hearing your cycling stories and providing advice for whatever adventure or project you are embarking on.

Thank you to every customer that walks through our door.
