Tires/Tubes
Overwhelmed by choice? We’ve been there ….
Here at College Street Cycles we’ve tested out and approved all the brands of tube and tire we carry. While we have some strong preferences, no matter what specific need you’re trying to meet, we can offer guidance and install them for you to guarantee you have the right fit. Call or email us to get an opinion, or stop by the store with your bike.
The Newton MTR (Mountain Rear), part of our ultimate tire package developed for gravity riding & racing.
A tire that is at its best bringing up the rear while sprinting out the start hut of your race run, as you attack those loose off camber sections, hold the line on rocky chutes and pinballing down rock sections.
Who Rides This Tire?
Your bike of choice is a Downhill, Enduro or trail rig, you eat/sleep loose turns, berms and full-on terrain.
Where Does This Tire Perform Best?
Best suited to your rear wheel. A broad range of conditions from loose dust to wet loam. Most at home on Downhill & Enduro terrain, or rowdy trails.
Go Faster, Go Bigger
The tire, that small contact patch that connects you to the ground, is arguably the most important part of your bike. When you’re in the start hut, about to drop into your race run you need to know that this essential component is designed specifically with the job in mind. What better choice than the tire named after the man who defined the very laws of gravity.
For Downhill, Enduro, and trail Dominance
Drive focused tread delivers speed and durability with tracking performance that inspires confidence transitioning from straight-line to cornering across a wide range of conditions.
Construction
A dual-ply, 120TPI construction, the 2x120TPI casing is supple and fast rolling with improved traction while providing high levels of support
Grip3 Compound
Rear specific, triple density 40/50/60a compound, offering balanced levels of grip and treadwear.
Protection
EN:Wall – A butyl layer located within the casing ply that provides defence to cut and abrasion as well as providing extra sidewall support.
The Maxxis Aspen is one of our premier XC race tires. A low center tread height allows the Aspen to roll quickly but substantial – for XC – side knobs provide cornering traction.
Greg Minnaar’s signature tire – the Maxxis Assegai – provides tenacious, predictable grip across the entire profile no matter the lean angle. The Assegai can be used front and rear for a surefooted feel or as a front paired with a faster rolling rear tire.
Rubber:
Dual compound (best for dry, hard conditions)
3C MaxxTerra (best for mixed conditions)
3C MaxxGrip (best for soft, wet conditions)
Casings:
60 TPI + EXO (general trail use)
EXO+ (heavy duty trail use)
DoubleDown (enduro use)
Downhill (DH race, bike park, gravity)
Wide Trail (WT) sizes are optimized for 30-35mm inner width rims
Tubeless Ready specs are denoted with a “TR”

Maxxis’ all-purpose road race tire receives a refresh for 2021 with a new lighter weight casing, upgraded puncture protection, and a revised tread pattern. The result is a lighter, faster, and more durable High Road.
With side knobs borrowed from the legendary Minion DHF, but widened to provide more support, the DHR II corners like no other. The center tread features ramped leading edges to improve acceleration and sipes to create a smooth transition when leaning the bike. Paddle-like knobs on the center tread dig in under hard braking and help keep the bike under control.
With numerous race wins under its belt and untold miles of backroad adventures, the Rambler is our most popular gravel offering. Tightly-packed center knobs are ramped for rolling efficiency on hardpack roads and asphalt. The cornering knobs are spaced farther apart for control in variable conditions.
The Maxxis Welterweight tubes are 0.8mm thick and available with Presta or Schrader valves.
As the name implies, the Maxxis Wetscream is designed for the most heinous muddy downhill race conditions imaginable. The Wetscream is a competition use only tire and it is intended for wet conditions only.

LIGHTER, GRIPPIER, FASTER. The ‘turbo’ of spike tires. With up to 402 spikes it bites firmly into icy roads. The tungsten carbide core of each spike is clad in weight-saving aluminum. The tire remains agile and sporty.

Odyssey's Air Supply tubes are specifically sized to fit modern BMX tires, and they are manufactured with a stronger emphasis on quality versus simply chasing the lowest possible price. On average, the Air Supply BMX tube retains air significantly longer than others currently available on the market. This is down to both the rubber that is used, and because of strict quality control during manufacturing. It is normal to assume that a “tube is a tube,” but a higher-quality tube will always last longer than a cheap tube during comparable everyday use.
