Kryptonite has what you need to prevent your bike from becoming someone else's bike. Take bike security seriously in this little city. We're happy to give recommendations based on your bike and where you're locking up specifically, but here are a few general rules for locking up your bike in New Haven.

Cables are only recommended for tying down accessories like wheels, seats, or helmets -No Matter How Thick! U-Locks and thick chains(1/4"+ wire size) are recommended for locking the frame of your bike to something sturdy.

Always lock to something sturdy. Some street signs and bike racks can be dodgy. Parking meters are normally very solid, and the city of New Haven has labeled them as "Free Bike Parking", so they encourage it. Now that biking is on the rise, more sturdy bike racks are showing up around town.

Never lock to small trees or anything that looks like it can be broken by kicking it.... and imagine a kick from like Chuck Norris wearing those badass cowboy boots or something.

Don't "hide" your bike when you lock it up. If it's tucked away, the thieves have some privacy and aren't as afraid of being caught.
